The art of planning and organizing a special event is a long time passion of mine. This is my very first Blog about that passion and I look forward to advising those potential clients as well as opening up the dialogue between the Planner and the Clients. Whether you are a Bride to be, A Mother of a soon to be Sweet 16 Daughter/Son, Newly Engaged Couple, Girlfriends planning to have a small or big event or a Business interested in planning a Special Event for your Employees, the Blog discussion over time will discuss them all. I will discuss the latest trends, do's and don'ts, or additional resources available to make your Special Event a DREAM come true.
So, I am looking at Style Network this morning. I so love the party designing and planning shows on various cable networks, such as We TV, TLC, Bravo, and Style Network. Many of these networks have become very popular for the Wedding Planning Shows. I love them for a number of very obvious reasons, but mainly to see the Event Planner/Designers creations. Now in the age of Reality TV, many of these networks follow the story line of the the Planner, Wedding Party and family members. The show I am watching this morning is Most Outrageous Weddings. Yes, I did say outrageous. One may refer to this being a oxymoron, Outrageous associated with Wedding. And it was not a description to reference Bling Bling either. The story that stood out the most for me, as there were many situations, was a Beach side Wedding in Florida. You are perhaps saying Shelley, what is wrong with a Beach side Wedding???
Nothing at all is wrong with a Beach side Wedding, it actually could be a very Romantic event. These are some of the most beautiful galas, however when planning a Wedding the time of year, location, weather etc. should be taken into consideration. The Wedding was held during Hurricane Season. For those of us in Dallas/Ft Worth, Hurricane Season preparation is not apart of our vocabulary since we are not near water, but a Floridian is accustomed to planning during this time period and should always have a back up plan if the weather forecast includes heavy raining and high winds. Literally the couple was in the middle of exchanging their vows, when guest abruptly began picking up their chairs and running to the near by Pavilion. This caught the attention of the couple to then look at the Beach waters moving aggressively in their direction.
The couple along with the Priest moved quickly to the Pavilion and just in time. Upon reaching the Pavilion the water sent tides into the area the wedding was originally being held. Now the couple, for their special time that they should have nothing but good memories about for their lifetime is now overshadowed by the Hurricane that almost blew them and their guest away. I felt for that Bride. Most girls dream of their Wedding Day practically all of their lives. You envision what it would be like. However my train of thought and focus was on the million dollar question. Did she have a planner to advise her? If so, did they not have a discussion about a Plan B for this outdoor Wedding? This provided the best example for the reason hiring a Planner is necessary.
The job of the Planner is to Quarterback your event. Eliminate unnecessary stresses or worries.
Hire the Planner. She or He is your advocate, not your adversary.
